{Friday Link Ups} A Week of Fun & Upcoming Events

Happy Friday, friends! This week seemed to get away from us here in the Holt household. Yet again, I left this little spot behind but for good reason. Starting this past Tuesday, Kevin has 12 days off. Yes, 12 straight, glorious days! Since these moments are so rare we have been soaking them up!! I figure since I've left you ladies out of the loop, I'll fill you in today during our usual Friday Five. So here goes...

1} Monday
On Monday, I let Harper help me bake for the very first time. Despite spilling a cup of oil all over the kitchen island, she did great. She was all upset and kept saying, "Harper made a mess"but her expression was so cute I couldn't help but laugh at her which ended up making her smile. Now I just pray she doesn't dump another cup of oil on the counter in the future since she thinks its funny...

2} Tuesday
My brother-in-law's girlfriend, Brooke, was celebrating her birthday on Tuesday so we spent the afternoon at the nail salon getting mani's and pedi's.

We kick started Kevin's vacation with dinner at our favorite steak house, Texas Roadhouse. It happened to be Kid's Night so Harper was delighted to receive a balloon animal of her choice, along with her free kid's meal (happy parents!). Needless to say, she chose a dog. Three days later, it's pretty much deflated but Harper asks for her "pink doggy" every time she gets in the car.

3} Wednesday
I went to see Trainwreck with my friend Brittni Wednesday afternoon while Kevin headed to the gym. It was absolutely hilarious. I recommend it to anyone that needs a laugh. To end our Wednesday evening, we spent the evening by the pool with the entire family. So much fun!

4} Thursday
One of the restaurants in a nearby town hosts a kids' night every Thursday night in the summer. Each Thursday, they have different characters at the restaurant, a dj to play kids' jams, and even kids karaoke. Since this week the characters that were perusing the restaurant were Mickey and Minnie, Harper's all time favorite, we decided to surprise her with a visit. I'm not sure if I've ever seen her so happy. The entire time we ate dinner she couldn't keep her eyes off the characters making their rounds. I'm pretty sure she high-fived them fifty different times (;

5} The Next Few Days...
Today is my handsome hubby's 32nd birthday! Unfortunately, I'll be heading out of town come lunch time to attend one of my lifetime best friend's wedding which means there will be no celebrating today. But no fear, as soon as Olivia's wedding is over, we'll be making our way to the beach for the Holt family's annual beach trip so we'll be celebrating at a restaurant of Kevin's choice one day next week. (Side note: I don't necessarily advertise that I won't be in town but since my neighbor's are sheriff deputies and will be keeping an eye out and we'll be having people at our house with our dog, I don't mind throwing it out there)

Hope you ladies had a great week! I'll see you when I return but don't you worry ladies, I've got a few wonderful ladies lined up to take over this space next week so be sure to check back!

{Friday Link Ups} Holt Family Staycations & Holiday Sales

Happy Friday, girls! As mentioned last Friday, Kevin was off all last week and the majority of this week so we enjoyed a little staycation here in NC. Over the last ten days or so, we have soaked up Kevin's time at home and have filled our days with as much fun as possible. Since I've been a little MIA this week and last, I thought I'd give you a little run down of how we have spent our staycation! If you missed my weekend recap, you can check it out here. It's pretty much the introduction to this post...

{1} Tweetsie Railroad
On Monday, Kevin, Harper, and I headed to Boone, NC with my in-laws to take Harper to Tweetsie Railroad. I haven't been since I was a kid so I wasn't quite sure of what to expect when we arrived. But all I can say is it met every single expectation I ever had and Harper loved every minute of our time there. I have a full post recapping our trip lined up for next week, but until then, I'll share just a few pictures from our amazing day!

{2} Day Dates
On Tuesday, after dropping Harper off at daycare, Kevin and I had another little day date. We started off our morning with breakfast at PG's; a local breakfast spot that we like to frequent. Afterwards we headed home to get ready to head to Greensboro. We ended up heading to the movies to see Max. I give it two thumbs up but be sure to carry some Kleenex with you. I cried from the beginning to the end! To finish up our little day date, we grabbed a late lunch at Steak and Shake, picked up some doughnuts from Krispy Kreme, and made a Target run. Could there be another more perfect ending to a day date?!

{3} Girls' Night
Since Kevin was off, he graciously volunteered to watch Harper Tuesday night so I could get in some quality time with my favorite girls. So on Tuesday night after a quick dinner, me and my friends Brittni and Brooke headed to the movies to catch the new Magic Mike movie. I'd like to say it was great but I was a little disappointed. But I won't say don't go see it. Channing Tatum will still make it worth it (;

{4} A Long, Overdue Play Date
Yesterday, Harper and I headed to High Point, NC to meet up with my friend Brenda, who blogs at Triple Braided Life, and her daughter, Ella Grace for a little play date. We spent the majority of our morning at their house and didn't end up leaving until shortly after lunch. Watching Harper and Ella Grace play together made me long for the day we have another little member in the Holt family. As much as I'd love to have a child of each sex, having another little girl for Harper to grow up and be best friends with would definitely not disappoint this little mama.

{5} Fourth of July Sales
It's no secret that I love holidays. Holidays rock for two reasons. The first being they provide an excuse to get together with friends and family and bond over food. The second being that they always bring great sales. And can I just say ladies, I have racked up on the sales this week thanks to Old Navy's 40% off sale. I ended up grabbing five dresses from Old Navy for less than $75! I mean seriously! I fell in love with this dress in the store and ended up ordering it online in three different colors (black, flaming tulip, and the white/black stripe for those of you wondering)! I also snatched up this little number in cobalt blue (which happens to now be sold out) and grabbed up another coral dress for just $9! Unfortunately, it's also sold out. But if you haven't caught Old Navy's bombshell of a sale, hop over there now! Use code goldmine for 40% off and free shipping for orders over $25!

{Friday Link Ups} Staycations + Disney Cruises

Happy Friday, yall! Let me begin by saying I was blown away by all of your sweet words concerning our patio makeover reveal that I shared on the blog Wednesday. You ladies sure do know how to make a girl's day! If you missed that reveal, you can see it here. You can also read about our Father's Day weekend; as well as catch up on 20 random facts that you may not have known about me that I shared yesterday. But back to today's post. As per the usual, I've got five little things from this week....

{1} Our Little Writer
One of Harper's favorite things to do each day is to write everyone's name. I spend an hour each day sitting at her little table in the playroom, writing everyone's name as she calls them out to me. Each day we have to write Nana, Dada, Mama, Hutson, Rimy, etc in a variety of different colors. But hands down, her favorite name to write is Papa. So on Sunday, as we were sitting in church, it came as no surprise when Harper spotted a tithing envelope and pencil that she wanted me to use to write Papa's name. Not wanting to waste a tithing envelope, I grabbed the Sunday bulletin and flipped to the inside to write Papa's name as Harper requested. Satisfied, Harper took the pencil and paper and wandered about her little way on the back pew. And then a few minutes later, she came over to me with that same bulletin. With a big smile on her face, she pointed to some scribble scrabble at the bottom of the bulletin and said "Papa". And then I had to do a double take because in her own little way, I could totally point out her p and a at the end of the drawing! Guess all of that writing, she's finally picking up on it herself!

{2} My Nephew, the Driver
On Monday, after taking Harper to daycare, I headed to my sister's house to accompany my nephew to get his driver's license. Needless to say he passed. My sister told me to update her when he finished and so I sent her the following picture, accompanied with the text, "He passed. Apparently, they'll give anyone a license these days." But seriously, his driving skills surprised me. We'll see how long the ten and two lasts now that he won't have an adult in the car (;

{3} Some Food for Thought
I came across this quote this week while scrolling through facebook. A lady from church had shared it among other things but for some reason, I kept being drawn back to this quote over and over. Throughout my week, this quote has popped back into my mind numerous times and each time one thought comes to mind. If our mind was completely consumed with Jesus, what could our lives be like?

{4} A Much-Needed Staycation
The hubs has been off this week and will be off for part of next week. Having him home has been absolutely wonderful. When Kevin decided to take a vacation this week, we had discussed going away for a few days but after talking it over, we decided since we're never hardly home as a family, a vacation could wait and we'd enjoy a staycation instead. And enjoy a staycation we have! Since Harper is still in daycare, Kevin and I have spent our days together as just a couple and it has felt so good to have some time with just him. We've spent our days grabbing breakfast and lunch, hanging out on the couch, and lounging at the pool. In the evenings, we've enjoyed our time as a family of three and Harper couldn't be more excited about having Daddy at home!

{5} Disney Cruises
Last weekend, I started discussing taking a Disney cruise vacation with my friend Stacey over at Loving Life and Learning Lots. Stacey is married to Kevin's best friend and together they have two sons, Elijah who turns 5 next week and Griffin who is 2. Since the kids are still a tad bit too young for Disney World, we talked a while back about taking them on a Disney cruise so that they could still experience the characters and environment whilst not having to measure them on every ride! haha We've been looking at our calendars and discussing dates but nothing has been set in stone yet. Since Stacey and I are both teachers, we know we'll have to go during a week when we already have a few days off. Which means currently we're looking into November and January. That being said, the only cruises available are those to the Bahamas. Have any of you ladies traveled to the Bahamas with Disney? My sister and her family has and she gave great reviews but I'd love to hear others input. If you haven't gone to the Bahamas with Disney, have you gone any where else? How was your experience? Any must haves and must do's?

{Friday Link Ups} School's Out, Snakes, & Summer Gift Buckets!

1} This Week's Posts
If you didn't catch any of my posts from this week, I blogged about our weekend, our trip to Charleston & Myrtle Beach, as well as shared our plans for our porch makeover. You can click on the links to read all about them if you missed them!

2} School is Out!
Today is my last official day of school. As of 12:15 today, I'll say goodbye to my precious third grade babies for the last time. Over the last 178 days, I've grown to love each and every one of those little guys and gals like my own. Despite how happy I am that summer has officially arrived for me and my little family, I'm a bit sad to see all of my babies go. But I know they're all going to continue to learn and grow up to do great things!

3} Christmas Shopping Bargains
If you caught my last confession post, I shared Harper's Christmas list we've been working on over the last month or so. I know it seems pretty early to think about Christmas lists but when we have so many people to buy for, it helps to spread out the purchases throughout the year. Lucky for me, I had a general idea of what I wanted to get Harper. That paid off because just this week I was able to buy Harper both this Pottery Barn doll high chair and cradle for a grand total of $65! Which still happens to be less than just one of those items. It pays to shop early my friends! If you don't believe it, you should try it. Come Christmas those sorts of bargains won't be around!

4} Snakes
Earlier this week, I got a text at work from Kevin saying we had a major problem at the house. Considering Kevin is pretty laid back and nothing is ever a major problem to him, I was immediately concerned. When I asked what was wrong, I couldn't happen but to laugh at his response. There's a big (inappropriate word) snake in the garage! My first thought... thank God it's not me! haha Kevin not being a big fan of snakes was not about to get near it so he called my dad to come over and help kill it. As Kevin waited for my dad to arrive, he stood in front of the area the snake had taken refuge in. Thirty minutes later my dad arrived with a hoe in hand. Yet, when they moved all the things the snake was behind, he was no longer there. Kevin has no idea how that happened as he never saw him escape. They tore our garage all to pieces looking for the thing but in the end, still ended up without finding him. All I can say is I hope he's long gone. On our walk yesterday I saw another snake dead and I can only hope that was him!

5} Summertime Bucket
As the school year has been coming to an end, I've been seeing many of my instagram friends have been creating summer gift buckets for their children. I think this is such a cute idea and am considering creating Harper a little summer bucket of her own. I was thinking of getting a sand pail and filling it with pool goodies, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, etc. Any thoughts on things to add friends? Do you ladies do this for your kids? If so, I'd love to see pictures and get your feedback!

{Link Up} Five Friday Confessions

Happy Friday, girls! As a working mama, this day can never get here fast enough. This day symbolizes yet another week under my belt and yet another weekend ahead of me to make new memories with my little family. It doesn't get any better than that my friends! Now on with a few confessions I wanted to share with you all this week for the usual Five on Friday posts.

................................................................................................

Packed Lunches.
I confess that my mama still packs my lunch for me once a week. As you know, my family does lunch together every Sunday after church. When dinner is over, my mom packs each of us to go plates to have for lunch the next day. My coworkers sometimes get a bit jealous. Who knew lunches from home could be so tasty?

Christmas Decorations.
I'll confess that I'm over fall already. I'm ready to pull out all my Christmas decor and get started on decorating my house for my favorite season of the year! This year I'm planning on going all out with neutral colors and pretty greenery! I'm pretty stoked. We may or may not be decorating before Thanksgiving this year :P Just sayin'.

Baby Fever.
I confess that have a severe case of baby fever. Problem is the husband does too! A few months ago we had a little "scare". For a while there we thought we may be having another little person. I was almost in tears since this was not our plan. But when we found out we weren't expecting I was somewhat disappointed. A few weeks ago the topic of having another baby came up and the husband admitted to me he was ready for another one. Unfortunately the timing is all off as if I got pregnant now I'd be missing the beginning of the school year with my next group of kiddos and that's just too much. So looks like we'll be waiting to start trying for baby number #2 next year. But until then I'll live through my friends who all are having babies in the next year. But I'm not gonna lie, if I found out I was having a baby tomorrow, I wouldn't be upset! :P

Date Night.
I confess that the hubs and I have a date night just the two of us this coming Saturday and I can not wait. We'll be going to the Barn and Dinner Theater with Kevin's work for dinner and a show. I'm sure we'll even make a Target run after. That's my kind of night girls (:

Blanket Scarves.
I confess that I have an addiction to blanket scarves. I ordered the infamous Zara one on Ebay recently for just $12.99! It was a total steal! The quality was utterly amazing and the scarf itself is a definite staple in my closet. Last week I found myself online ordering a few more for Christmas gifts. I also found myself putting a black plaid one in my cart. It arrived yesterday on my doorstep and I was as equally satisfied with it as I was my tan one. I foresee myself ordering the navy and green plaid one very soon! It'll be the perfect addition to add to my collection!

{Link Up} Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween, ladies! I am so excited to get the Halloween festivities underway. Last year Harper was too young to understand the concept but I think she just might enjoy herself this year. I'll be leaving work shortly after 3, running to pick her up from daycare, then we plan to start making our rounds sometime after 4. We have lots of houses to visit and lots of pictures to take! But before we can have some fun, I want to leave you all with a little five for Friday love...

A Full Weekend with the Hubs
I am so excited that the hubs has the whole weekend off. This hasn't happened in months and I couldn't be more ecstatic. Go figure he does happen to have a cold and spent most of his day laying around yesterday. But Harper and I will take him sick or well if it means we can see him more. We have an exciting weekend planned. Of course tonight we'll be trick or treating. Tomorrow we'll be painting Harper's playroom then finishing off the night with a game night with our closest friends. And Sunday we'll be having family photos taken. Our schedule is jammed pack but I'm looking forward to spending the weekend as a family of three!

"Me" Time
Despite that the hubs wasn't feeling well yesterday, he was so gracious to watch Harper when I got off work so I could have some "me" time. After work I headed to the nail salon and treated myself to a much needed manicure. I hadn't been since July and it was nearly killing me. When I got home I fixed dinner and we ate together as a family. When dinner was done and the dishes were cleared, Kevin told me to go upstairs and read while he and Harper played so that's just what I did. I spent the evening curled up in our bed with a new book while Harper and Kev had some daddy/daughter time. I ended up reading the entire book in one sitting... something I haven't done in ages. Days like that are ones I could really get used to!

Happy Mail Days
My herringbone vest that I ordered over a month ago arrived in the mail this week. I had to wear it the very next day. I paired it with a chambray shirt, black leggings, and my new hunter boots. Toss in a gold monogram necklace and I thought my outfit was pretty perfect.

Just Call Me Betty Crocker
I'm not sure what's gotten into me here lately but I've been cooking up a storm. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind cooking, it's the cleaning up after part that prevents me from carrying out the task. But here lately I've been cooking all our meals at home and it feels so great. We've had some delicious meals and we've saved a ton of money instead of eating out. We've had meatloaf, barbeque ribs, homemade vegetable soup, and chicken tettrazini and I even have meals lined up for the weekend. I think I just may go as Betty Crocker tonight for Halloween (;

Christmas Goodies
Thanks to some amazing steals on Zulily and a sale at Pottery Barn kids this week, Harper has three more Christmas gifts on the way. Since Harper no longer needs a diaper bag everywhere we go, I snatched up the most precious mini backpack from Pottery barn this week for less than $20. It's the perfect size to keep a few diapers in, a couple of books, some snacks, and a sippy cup. I can't wait till it arrives!

In addition to Harper's backpack, I snatched up a few toys for her on Zulily. Harper is hands down my child when it comes to her OCD ways. She is obsessed with putting thems back in their places when she's done with them; a task I promise I did not teach her. She even puts Kevin's tennis shoes in the right place at the end of the day if she sees he's laid them somewhere else. I'm telling you... this girl makes me proud :P With that said, Harper loves to watch me clean so when I saw these adorable kids play cleaning sets I had to get them both for Harp. I sure hope she loves them as much as I do!

{Link Up} A Productive Week

Happy Friday girls! Unlike most weeks these days, this week has flown by. We've accomplished quite a few things this week in the Holt household. We've marked off some items on our to-do lists and crossed off a few things from our fall bucket list. Speaking of fall bucket lists, I'll be sharing about ours next Tuesday so check back then. Instead of giving you the full run down of our week, let me share a few of my favorite things that have happened thus far for my Five for Friday and Oh Hey, Friday link-ups.

Dixie Classic Fair
Monday my students and I took our first field trip of the school year. We went to the Dixie Classic Fair which is by far my favorite fair around. It happened to be school day so everyone got in free. Kevin and I go every year and we have plans to go this weekend if the weather cooperates. If not, at least I already got to go once and indulge in all the deliciousness of the fried foods! Who doesn't go to the fair for the food?! I mean, I know I can't say no to these blooming onions.

Pumpkin Patch
One of the items on our family's fall bucket list is to take Harper to a pumpkin patch. Our intention was to take her to a local farm to pick out her first pumpkin but it just so happened that our church is currently doing a pumpkin fundraiser so on Monday we allowed Harper to wonder around and choose her first one. It was the cutest darn thing watching her try to decide. I took about a million and one photos and I'll share more of them next week but for now, here's one of my favorites.

Half-Days at Work
Wednesday was our first teacher workday of the year. Since I was pretty much caught up with all of my lesson planning for the next month or so, my papers were all graded, and my classroom was relatively straight and in order, I decided to take a half day off. I met the hubs for lunch at one of my favorite hometown hangouts where we grabbed some fried chicken and home cooked vegetables. After lunch I headed home and got to work on cleaning our house. A task that has been put off far too long due to the hubs working every weekend and me being with Harper every moment I'm off. With the Hubs being busy and Harper at daycare, I can't even begin to tell you how much I got done. I cleaned our kitchen, packed away Harper's bottles and beginner sippy cups, dusted furniture and vacuumed, cleaned bathrooms, did five or more loads of laundry, cleaned out my closet, and took some stuff to Goodwill. I mean seriously! I forgot how much you could get done with no husband or babies around. It was glorious and for the first time in a long time, I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulder.

A Clean Car
Along with my half-day on Wednesday, some other exciting things happened! I finally got my car cleaned. Ladies, that baby hasn't had a bath in months. It was seriously embarrassing. When I went to pick up my car from the detail shop, I nearly didn't recognize it. I completely forgot that my car looks almost black when it's clean instead of navy. For the past six months it's looked gray from all the dirt and grime that's been accumulating on it because I just haven't had time to call and set up an appointment. Can I just say that that was by far the best $45 I have spent all week!

Happy Mail Days
I had another happy mail day this week. My Zara look alike scarf arrived in the mail earlier this week and I couldn't be more excited about the fall weather that is to come. I'm anxiously awaiting the days that it's cool enough to wear it. If you've been on the look out for the Zara blanket scarf and don't want to fork out a pretty penny for one, go grab this one on Ebay for just $12,99 (shipping included!). I was very impressed with the overall quality of it. It's just as nice as the real deal :D

{Link Up}: Weekly Randoms

Friday is finally here and I'm pretty stoked about it. I'm not going to lie, I count down the days till Friday just like I count down the days until Christmas. And while I'm on the topic of Fridays and Christmas, there are just eleven Fridays left between now and then. Whoop whoop! Not even going to lie, it's probably my favorite discovery that I made this week. And speaking of my week, lets get on with this Oh, Hey Friday & 5 on Friday post so I can share some randoms from it.

....................................................................................................

1. Impromptu Date Night
After my not so perfect beginning of the week, the hubs surprised me with a dinner date for just us two. He arranged for his mom to watch Harper while the two of us regrouped over dinner at Outback. To really put the cherry on top, he even took me to Marshalls, Old Navy, and Target/Starbucks. Just a few of my favorite places where I bought nothing except for Harper's first car (see #2). How'd I get so lucky with this guy?!

2. Bargain of the Year
During our trip to Target the night of our impromptu date night, the hubs and I found ourselves wondering down aisles we usually don't browse. Most of the time our Target runs consist of the clothing, baby, housewares, and grocery departments. But this week we found ourselves perusing the sporting goods section looking at random pool gear that was marked down on clearance. Then lo and behold, we hit the holy grail! There in a box sat a battery-powered Viper for just $50 on clearance! After a quick google search, I discovered that they retailed for $280 at Walmart! Kevin and I had already discussed that Harper's big Christmas item this year would be a battery powered car as her little Cozy Coupe is her favorite thing in the world. However, Kevin really wanted to get Harper a Corvette just like his. But for just $50, we really couldn't pass up grabbing this baby. I think Kevin was as excited  as I was for the bargain of the year. And can I just say, Kevin's exact words as we were walking out of the store were "Well, I always wanted a viper"! Men!

3. Fall Fashion Must-Haves
So last week I posted my top five fall must-haves. If you didn't read about them, you can find that post here. I'm happy to report that three of those items have been ordered and are on their way. I'm super excited. My boots arrived yesterday and my scarf and vest will make their appearance in the next few weeks. Happy mail days will be in my future! I'm sure you'll be seeing my mail day excitement on instagram! :D

4. New Hairstyles
Harper got a new hairstyle after bath time last week. I have to admit it was meant to be a joke but then I thought it made for the cutest picture and everytime I stumble across it, I can't help but smile real big!

5. My Mini Me
Over the weekend, Harper and I sported identical shoes... well almost. The thought that Harper is now at the stage that she can dress like her mama makes me oh so happy that I have a girl. I'll be on the hunt this weekend for some more mama and me staples for our closets! If you didn't catch my weekend recap, last weekend I grabbed up a few adorable pieces for Harper's wardrobe. Now I'm off to find myself a matching fur vest just like hers :P

9.19.2014

{Oh Hey, Friday}

Today I'm joining two fabulous ladies, Amy of the Farmer's Wife and Karli of September Farm, for their weekly Oh hey, Friday link up. I figured, why not? It's Friday! A day for a little randomness. So let's get a little random shall we?

..................................................................................

1. Fall Finds
I mentioned in my weekend recap this week that I grabbed some amazing decor deals over the weekend. Since I didn't quite get around to sharing those, here's a picture. Hopefully I'll get around to placing them around the house this weekend and you can get a sneak peek next week of the fall decor going up in the Holt house. I'm just a wee bit excited about this!

2. The Hubs
As I mentioned Wednesday, the hubs had to undergo yet another surgery this week. Poor thing, this was the third one in a year for something that should rarely occur a second time. He's still a little sore but overall his recovery is going splendid. Much better than the first and second time. Guess he's getting used to it, right?

3. Hair Cut
Last weekend I decided to do something drastic to my hair. By drastic I mean I had it all chopped off this week. I haven't had short hair since I was a freshman in college. In other words, seven years ago. I was a bit nervous but oh so ready for a change.  And this change was definitely a good one. My hair is so much lighter, takes a whole lot less time to style, and is the perfect fall cut. Win, win, win!

4. Bedtime
Yesterday after dinner, the hubs, Harper, and I decided to lay down for a short nap. Well, the hubs and Harper got up but this girl didn't. Ladies, I slept from 6:45 to 5:45 this morning! Whaaat?! This girl was seriously tired even though I didn't even realize it. But I'm not going to lie... it was ahhhhmazing!

5. Fall Fashion
There are soooo many cute fall items now and I am so ready to start stocking my closet. I have a Fall want list that is growing faster and faster by the minute. Check back next Tuesday for my want list. Picture leopard print bags, puffer vests, cute boots, and an abundance of monogram items! (:

Happy Friday ladies!
