30 Weeks

Pregnancy Highlights

How far along? 30 weeks

Baby Size: She's about the size of a cabbage. She's approximately 15.7 inches and weighs about 2.75 pounds.

Total Weight Gain: When I went to my appointment last week, I had gained 25 pounds! I about fell over when I stepped on the scale. I knew there was no way I had gained 7-10 pounds in one week! Especially when I had been walking 3+ miles a day and had actually cleaned up my eating habits. After meeting with my doctor, they discovered I was retaining fluid. After spending my days off my feet and my evenings with my feet propped up, I'm thankful to say I've lost most of that fluid and have now currently gained about a total of 18 pounds.

Maternity Clothes: I'm still mixing it up. I've found a few cute maternity tops but unfortunately, this bump just isn't big enough and the shirts swallow me whole! So I'm still just wearing my normal shirts and alternating between maternity bottoms and pre-maternity bottoms depending on how they're made.

Stretch Marks? Still none thanks to my cocoa butter ritual!

Sleep: I've been tossing and turning more since I'm having to sleep on my left side to help with this fluid retention. I'm usually a stomach or right side sleeper so it's been a huge adjustment; but in the end it's worth it.

Best Moment This Week: Marking off more of those items on my "Before Harper Arrives" to-do lists. Her nursery is just about complete!

Miss Anything? Not that I can think of!

Movement: Harper moves constantly..especially when we're watching the Carolina Tarheels do their thing on the basketball court. She's definitely going to be a Tarheel like her mommy & daddy!

Food Cravings: A frosty glass of sweet iced tea..preferably with the tiny ice cubes! My mouth will water just thinking about it!

Gender: A girl

Labor Signs: None... let's keep it that way!

Symptoms: I'm thankful to report that my acid reflux is FINALLY under control thanks to a prescription of Zantac 150! It does wonders and is completely safe during pregnancy!  I was told to take one in the morning and one at night. However, I only take it when the reflux hits and it still works perfectly!

Belly Button In or Out? In

Wedding Rings On or Off? On

Mood: Excited, Happy, & Accomplished!

Looking Forward to: Getting our garage and closets cleaned out and organized. We've done a lot but we still have to get things taken to Goodwill or Salvation Army so we can finish going through and organizing the little things.

29 Weeks

Pregnancy Highlights

How far along? 29 weeks

Baby Size: She's the size of a butternut squash. In everyday terms, she is right around 15 1/4 inches and weighs about 2.5 pounds.

Total weight gain: Somewhere around 18 pounds. I started back at the gym this past week and have been eating much healthier snacks and drinking more water. Thanks to that, I was able to maintain my weight for the week (:

Maternity clothes? Still wearing my pre-maternity dresses and shirts and mixing it up with pre-maternity and maternity pants.

Stretch marks? Not so far. I've been lathering on the Vaseline Cocoa butter every time I get out of the shower.

Sleep:  I'm still sleeping pretty well. I wake up occasionally during the night if I'm in an uncomfortable position but after getting comfortable again, I fall right back to sleep.

Best moment this week:  Two things this week! One, scheduling our maternity picture session! Yay for photos of the baby bump. Two, getting the house cleaned! Saturday and Sunday, I woke up EARLY in the morning. By early, I mean 5:25! Since I couldn't go back to sleep, I decided to do some cleaning. By cleaning I mean I vacuumed; dusted; mopped; cleaned the bathrooms; did all laundry; washed dishes; cleaned out our freezer, fridge, and pantry; took out the drawers and shelves of the fridge and washed and wiped them down; and did some organizing. Our house hasn't been this spotless since before we moved in and I'm loving it! Let's hope I have the energy to keep it all nice and neat over the next couple of months!

Miss Anything? Not that I can think of!

Movement: We have quite the wiggle worm on our hands these days. She moves morning, noon, and night. I woke up the other night to Kevin laughing. As I had slept, he had been watching Harper move all around in my belly! It's funny to think that she can move all around and I'm so out of it that I don't even realize.

Food cravings: Honeycrisp apples (the best apples ever!) with a side of peanut butter

Anything making you queasy or sick: No.

Gender: Girl {Our little Harper doodle!}

Labor Signs:  No

Symptoms: It seems that this week I have been bombarded with pregnancy symptoms! The acid reflux has been flaring up in full force. I've got a doctor's appointment today and you best believe I'll be asking for something stronger than TUMS. I probably eat 5 tums a day and they only provide some minor and temporary relief. Over the last couple of days, I've also noticed my feet swelling at the end of the day. I've also been waking up in the middle of the night from cramps in my calves. Those bad boys are no joke! But on a positive note, I'm in full nesting mode and I'd definitely say it's a side effect of pregnancy but I'm loving it!

Belly Button in or out? In but it's getting very small!

Wedding rings on or off?  On

Mood:  Happy and Excited!

Looking forward to: Going to check on Harper today and getting Harper's closet cleaned out this week. My dad is coming over Thursday to install another shelf in Harper's closet. Then I can begin to organize all of clothes (:

The "Before Harper Arrives" To Do Lists

Do you know any "list" people? You know the type...the kind that make a list for EVERYTHING. Well I know someone just like that and that person would be me! I write a list for pretty much anything and everything; be it for what I'm taking on vacation, what I need to get at the grocery store, what I need to accomplish for the week at home or work, what I'm going to blog about for the week, who I need to send invites to for various parties, etc. If something can be categorized into a list... you best believe I'll do it. I'm telling you...my obsession with lists is probably not healthy. So needless to say, when I found out I was pregnant with Harper, a list lists were began of all that I needed to accomplish before she arrived. I hadn't planned on sharing my lists on my blog but after reading Tiffany's list over at The Austin Family Diary of all that she hoped to accomplish before their baby boy arrives, I thought, "Hey, why not share mine? Maybe it'll help me accomplish things faster.". So with that said, here are my current "Before Harper Arrives" to do lists. I say current because let's be honest, I'm sure the more I mark off, the more I'll be adding to take its place!

Harper's Nursery
- Decide on and purchase Harper's furniture (bed, dresser, and chest)
- Decide on and purchase Harper's bedding
- Decide on and purchase a rocker and glider for Harper's nursery (Hubby's request)

- Order closet clothing dividers to match Harper's bedding
- Organize and group Harper's clothing by size in her closet and drawers
- Decide on what to do with Harper's growing book collection... bookshelf or baskets?
- Decide on what to keep Harper's toys in... basket or bins on a bookshelf?

House
- Clean out all of our closets and get rid of unused clothes, shoes, and other items
- Take a trip to Goodwill or Salvation Army and make a donation of everything unused or unwanted
- Clean out and organize storage shelves in the garage
- Organize and clean out our two storage buildings
- Deep clean the entire house over Spring Break (scrub and polish floors, wipe down baseboards/window seals/blinds, dust all furniture, vacuum, clean carpets, etc)
- Remove everything from the refrigerator and freezer and wipe down the inside
- Clean out freezer, refrigerator, and pantry and throw out old items
- Tear down wallpaper in the kitchen and have the kitchen painted
- Have fence and deck stained
- Have yard landscaped

Cars
- Lexus: Have mine washed, waxed, and detailed (closer to Harper's arrival)
- Isuzu: Clean out and have washed, waxed, and detailed (closer to Harper's arrival)
- Mustang: Clean out and have it thoroughly washed
- Corvette: Have it washed (though we won't be driving it for a while! haha)
- Decide whether to trade in the Mustang and Isuzu for Kevin to get a new SUV or keep what we have

Randoms
- Research products to register for
- Complete Harper's baby registry
- Purchase a professional grade camera
- Pre-register at the hospital
- Decide on which baby classes to take and register for them
- Take one last vacation before Harper arrives

Well there are my current lists! I've got lots to accomplish over the next few months!
Let's hope it all gets done in time!

Happy 99th Birthday Nannie!

Today is not only Valentine's Day, aka National Love Day as I like to call it, it's also my Nannie's 99th birthday! It's a huge milestone that we are so happy to be celebrating. The following picture was taken 4 or 5  years ago but it will always be one of my favorites so I had to share!

Dad, Nannie, & Me

Do you have any love ones who have celebrated such a milestone?

28 Weeks

Pregnancy Highlights

How far along? 28 weeks! Yay for making it to the third trimester!

Baby Size: She's the size of a chinese cabbage. In everyday terms, she is still somewhere around 15 inches. We also found out last Friday that she currently weighs 2 pounds and 2 ounces.

Total weight gain: I've gained somewhere around 15-18 pounds. Looks like I'll be heading back to the gym at least 3 days a week so I can keep this weight down and stable!

Maternity clothes? I'm still wearing all of my pre-maternity shirts and alternating between pre-maternity and maternity bottoms.

Stretch marks? Lucky for me, the answer is still no!

Sleep:  I've been tossing and turning more over the last few days but thankfully, I've been able to go straight back to sleep when I wake up during the night.

Best moment this week:  Passing my glucose test and seeing Harper at our doctor appointment last Friday!

Miss Anything? Not particularly!

Movement: She's still moving around mostly in the evening or at night. Every now and then I get a kick or a wiggle out of her during the day; but usually only because I'm squatting down or something is pressing against my belly. I guess that's her way of saying "move it".

Food cravings: Cereal in Milk. I've been alternating between Lucky Charms and Frosted Flakes. Is it sad that as soon as I get home, I have to fix a bowl as a snack? And by bowl, I mean filled to the top and then a refill to make two?

Anything making you queasy or sick: Still just the acid reflux. I seriously feel like a fire breathing dragon these days. Now I understand why babies are so fussy that suffer from acid  reflux. I can barely tolerate it so I can't imagine how it feels for the little people who don't know how to fix it.

Gender:  A sweet baby girl {Harper Londyn}

Labor Signs:  No

Symptoms: Just the acid reflux

Belly Button in or out? In

Wedding rings on or off?  On

Mood:  Excited

Looking forward to: Marking some more things off of our "Before Harper Arrives" to do list; finalizing Harper's baby shower details; and celebrating Valentine's Day with the hubs later this week (:

Weekend Bargains: All Things Baby

Over the weekend, I attended a large baby consignment sale with a friend of mine who just so happens to be a new mama. She blogs over here.  I went to the sale knowing that I probably wouldn't buy much since we haven't had a baby shower yet but I wanted to check out the sale for future reference; as they'll have another sale in the fall after Harper arrives. They had some pretty great deals on their items. Unfortunately, most everything had been picked over by the time we arrived, but it was still worth the trip! I scored a Munchkin dishwasher basket for $1 and they usually sell for $10.99. I also purchased a Munchkin warm glow wipe warmer for $5 and they usually retail for $25.99. Both items looked brand new! I did not register for either item because I was unsure if we'd use them or not and I hated the thought of our friends and family spending their hard earned money on items that we might not use. Needless to say, I felt pretty good about purchasing the items for such a low cost and if I find out I don't end up using them often, I haven't lost too much money!

Over the weekend, I also did a little clothing shopping for Harper. Over the last few weeks, I've been scouring the clearance racks at Belks for fall and winter clothes for little Harper Doodle. I've been trying to stock up on clothes for her for the end of the year since everyone will be giving us spring and summer clothing at our showers. Here are the items I've currently purchased for her! Most of the items I've only given $5 or $6 for but there are a few I splurged on and spent close to $10! Either way, I felt like it was still a bargain and it would beat us having to pay regular price for her fall and winter clothes come the end of the year when she needs them!

Any other expecting moms or new mama's out there who have been buying and storing clothes for their new babies? Please tell me I'm not the only one! haha

Checking Up on Harper

Last Friday, we had an appointment to go check on Little Miss Harper Doodle. Usually I  am counting down the days until we can to go back to the doctor and see how our baby girl is doing. But this was one appointment I was not looking forward to.

Now don't get me wrong, it was not because I did not want to see our precious baby girl; it was because I didn't want to take that glucose tolerance test. You know the one I'm talking about!  I was terrified of it! Both my mom and my sister suffered from gestational diabetes and were placed on strict diets when they were pregnant so I just knew I was going to fail the test as well. Failing that test was something I just knew I couldn't do! I can have a doctor draw blood or give me a shot everyday without even flinching, but when it comes to having my finger pricked...this girl is a big baby! The thought of having to prick my finger three to six times a day literally made me start sweating.

In hopes of passing the test, I made sure that I ate a healthy dinner of veggies on Thursday night and drank only water. On Friday morning, I woke up early and fixed two scrambled eggs and some peanut butter and crackers for breakfast and drank a large glass of water. I was told the more protein you eat, the better your sugar level will be. I had no idea if there was any truth to it (though a friend swears by it) but I was sure as heck going to try everything possible to pass!

When we arrived at the doctors office, I had to head straight to the lab. The lady told me they had two flavors to choose from: orange and fruit punch. Having been forewarned by a friend, I knew the orange was the route to go. On top of that, I'm not a big fruit punch person. I had three minutes to down the half a cup of liquid. I cringed at the first sip but once it went down it wasn't half bad. It tasted like Diet Sunkist; it just had the thickness of cough syrup. The worst part of the whole experience was how I felt after I finished the contents of the cup. My throat burned like crazy and it felt like I'd just downed a whole cup of raw sugar. All I could think was that I wanted a glass of ice cold water to wash it down! But too bad... I didn't have one!

After I finished the drink, I was given a timer set for an hour and sent back to the main lobby to wait. A few short minutes later, we were called to head to the back to have an ultrasound done to check on Harper's kidneys. At our last appointment, the doctor's discovered that one of Harper's kidneys were swollen. Of course, when I first found out about it, I had a slight panic attack. However, after reading up on the problem when I got home, I learned that it truly is of no real concern. The issue is found in 1 out of every 6 babies and the condition usually works itself out before the baby is even born. If it doesn't, then the baby just has to see a urologist once a year after he or she is born. But to no avail, the doctors do still have to monitor it which means we have to have ultrasounds at each visit. This by no means upsets me because we get lots of pictures of our baby girl!

This visit was a little different though from all of our other visits because instead of it just being Kevin and I, Kevin's dad tagged along too! He wanted to get a glimpse of his first grand baby. Unfortunately, he was pretty disappointed. In her typical fashion, Harper did not cooperate with the ultrasound technician at all.  I had to roll from side to side and then back to my back trying to get her to wiggle into a different position. It didn't work and if she moved at all, she just moved her hands over her face! It's quite hilarious how stubborn she is. The only half decent picture we got of her was of her profile and her leg which still happens to be over top of her head...which means our baby girl is still frank breech.

After our ultrasound, Kevin and I had to meet with the doctor and discuss the results from our ultrasound. She pretty much told us what we already knew from our ultrasound session. Harper's kidney wasn't as swollen as it had been last time they had checked but it was still bigger than her left kidney so we have to come back in a few weeks and have another ultrasound (yay for seeing her again...whether she's uncooperative or not). She also told us that our baby is going to be a shorty! Haha not really but sort of. She told us that Harper's legs are measuring a week behind and she wasn't sure why considering Kevin and I were both tall. After explaining to her that Kevin is actually the tallest person in his family by like 5 inches, she didn't seem concerned at all. Apparently, she's going to take after her daddy's side and be short. Though I'm hoping she's going to be built like her daddy...tall with short legs and a long torso!

Following our talk with the doctor, I had to go find out if I had gestational diabetes or not. I held my breath the whole time I waited in the lab for the results. Apparently, I had nothing to fear. I passed the test with flying colors! The cut off was 140 and my blood sugar had read at 112. Yippee! There just might be some truth in that advice I was given to eat lots of protein before the test! Who knows?!

All in all, my much dreaded appointment turned out to be half decent and not as bad as I expected! Afterwards, Kevin, my father in law, and I headed out to get some lunch and celebrate my passing the test...you best believed I indulged in several glasses of ice cold sweet tea and some sugar filled goodies during that meal! (:

27 weeks

Pregnancy Highlights

How far along? 27 weeks

Baby Size: She's the size of a cauliflower! In everyday terms, she is right around 15 inches and weighs about 2 pounds!

Total weight gain: I'm guessing around 12-15 pounds. Over the last week, I've seen a huge difference in the growth of my belly. I'll find out Friday how much I've gained!

Maternity clothes? I'm still wearing all pre-maternity tops. For the most part, I'm still wearing pre-maternity jeans but I do wear my maternity khakis and black dress pants to work. They're more comfortable as I get up and down to help my kiddos at work.

Stretch marks? Not yet. I'm still applying cocoa butter after my morning shower and before going to bed at night. It seems to do the trick!

Sleep:  I'm sleeping great these days. I've even been able to go through the night without having to get up and potty thanks to my new routine. I try to not drink anything an hour before going to bed and right before I fall asleep, I get up and go potty for the last time. For the last week, that routine has been working for me and I haven't had to get up several times in the middle of the night! We'll see how long it lasts!

Best moment this week:  We are officially registered for three baby classes! I debated over the last few weeks on whether to take classes before Harper arrived. I talked to lots of recent new mamas and I got a mixture of advice. Some liked the classes, some thought they were pointless. In the end, we decided to go on and take a condensed birth and baby class. I figured I'd rather sort of be prepared than to have no idea what was going on. Plus our class includes a tour of our hospital and I feel like I'll want to know what I'm going to be looking at during delivery! haha I also signed up for two breastfeeding classes as every mother I know did mention how wonderful and helpful they were!

Miss Anything? Regular clothes! I went shopping over the weekend and of course all of the stores I shop at are full of the new spring fashions. I tried on quite a few items to see if I liked any for after Harper arrives and before they all got picked over. It was so frustrating because so many of the dresses didn't fit over my belly :( But I did grab a couple of new outfits that will work with my baby belly now and will still work after she's born. Score!

Movement: She's back to her backwards schedule! Apparently, we have a night owl on our hands. Every evening around 5 she starts waking up and moving around. She'll move around for most of the evening until I go to bed. I've even woke up from a few of her kicks in the middle of the night over the last few weeks. Speaking of which, those kicks have gotten pretty strong! Her Daddy loves them! He'll poke my belly each day until she starts kicking him back! Needless to say, my husband is highly amused (:

Food cravings: Nothing particular.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Acid reflux :(

Gender:  Girl

Labor Signs:  Not yet

Symptoms: Just indigestion and horrible acid reflux!

Belly Button in or out? In

Wedding rings on or off?  On

Mood:  Happy and Excited!

Looking forward to: Seeing Harper on Friday! We're having to have an ultrasound to check on her. At our last ultrasound the doctors discovered that Harper had a swollen kidney so they want to monitor it though out my coming visits. After assurance from my doctor and lots of research, I've come to terms that it's not a big deal. Thankfully, it's the most common problem found during pregnancy and 9/10 times it works itself out before the baby is born. I'm hoping on Friday everything is just like it should be! But even if it isn't, we're trusting God with it all!
